An orgy by the bike path

Heading home from work, I decided to take a route past a certain sign of spring. Common frogs mate in early spring, and sure enough, a woodland swamp right next to the cycle path was teeming with croaking frogs generating new life.

I hurried home to grab my camera bag and returned to capture the events. The cold water chilled my feet as I entered the pool. I wanted to have the camera as close to the water as possible to get a low angle of photography. This would help blur out the background and isolate the mating frogs in the image. A telephoto lens added this effect, also enabling me to avoid disturbing the frogs.

It will be interesting to see how the tadpoles manage in the pool, as this particular one often dries out later in the season.
